When Tilbury Contracts took on a prestigious development in Chelsea, they asked Jablite to supply its Inverted Roof Insulation to top off the project.
Tilbury needed a BBA-certified system with the required compression and thermal performance. Jablite’s 200 grade grey HP board met the project criteria with its design load capability of 90KN/m² and a thermal conductivity of 0.035 for U-value calculations on an inverted roof application.

Designed by world renowned architect Sir Terry Farrell, Chelsea Waterfront comprises of a 37- and 25-storey glass residential tower, 3 riverside buildings arranged around landscaped gardens and the refurbishment of the historic Lots Road Power Station. When complete, the scheme will deliver 706 new homes to the area.
Compton house, one of the riverside residential units on the development has been built using a Jablite Inverted Roof Insulation. This roof design incorporated 1600 sq.m. of Jablite 200 grey HP roof insulation on top of a high performance waterproof membrane and finished with a shingle top or precast paving where appropriate.
Jablite HP boards are manufactured using a low water absorption expanded polystyrene (EPS), specifically designed for inverted roof applications. High Performance boards are overlaid with a Jablite Filter Membrane, laid in 300 mm laps overlapping in the downward direction of the flat roof slope. This is an integral part of Jablite’s inverted roof system and reduces the cooling effect of water penetration, improving the overall thermal performance of the roof system.
“The Jablite system is simple to install and the 1200 by 1200 boards enable a fast installation,” says Will Haynes, Tilbury Contracts. “Jablite HP Inverted Roof Insulation achieves the required U-Values for this development, whilst reducing the thickness of the roof insulation. The Jablite boards are designed with an overlap to prevent lifting during installation.”
An inverted roof application maintains the insulation at an even temperature and protects the waterproof membrane from the damaging effects of UV radiation or from the weather.

The Jablite inverted roof range is supplied in 200 or 300 grade boards to meet the specified compression performance. The 200 HP boards were chosen to be used on Compton House due to the thickness requirements of the inverted roof on this development.
