Jabfloor Premium FAQ

Welcome to the Jabfloor Premium FAQs

What is the maximum weight of wet concrete that Jabfloor Premium can withstand?

Jabfloor Premium 70 has a nominal 1% compression strength of 20kPa equating to 2.0 tonnes per m², which means that Jabfloor Premium 70 will accept up to 600mm of wet concrete. Higher grades of Jablite Premium will accept even greater depth of concrete.

What is the maximum point load Jabfloor Premium can accommodate?

Jabfloor Premium is available in two grades. Jabfloor Premium 70 has a nominal 1% compression strength of 20kPa (2.0 tonnes per m²), whilst Jabfloor Premium 100 has a nominal 1% compression strength of 45kPa (4.5 tonnes per m²). The Jablite Technical Department is delighted to provide advice on the load capabilities of Jablite EPS, however your project structural engineer should be consulted to establish suitability.

Can Jabfloor Premium be used under a garage floor?

Insulation is not required for garage floors according to Building Regulations, however if specified your project structural engineer should be consulted to establish suitability. If changing the use of the garage to a normal domestic use living area, then Jabfloor Premium can be used with a DPM and standard floor finish.

Where should the damp proof membrane be positioned when using Jabfloor Premium with a concrete floor slab?

Jablite Premium can be placed above or below the damp proof membrane. Jablite EPS is a non-biodegradable material which will be unaffected by ground moisture.

Is a damp proof membrane required when Jabfloor Premium is placed over a beam & block floor?

No. In a standard suspended / ventilated (not in contact with ground) beam & block floor with a screed finish a damp proof membrane is not normally required. A radon membrane may be required in certain areas.

Is Jabfloor Premium OK under laminate / tile flooring?

Yes. So long as an approved layer (e.g. chipboard / screed) is positioned between the laminate or tiles and the Jablite Premium there should be no problem.

What thickness screed do I need above Jabfloor Premium?

This depends upon the building use, type of screed and construction of the floor.

For domestic properties the minimum thickness of screed is 65mm, unreinforced. For all other properties the minimum thickness is 75mm. However, recommendations regarding proprietary screeds should be obtained from the relevant manufacturer. The recommendations of the appropriate parts of BS 8204 should always be followed. Our Technical Department would be happy to provide further help on specifics if required.

Do the joints of Jabfloor Premium need to be taped?

Yes. All joints need to be taped to ensure boards do not separate during the pouring of the screeds/slab.

What thickness of Jabfloor Premium is required to achieve a U-value of 0.25W/m²K?

This depends on the Perimeter / Area (P/A) ratio and the construction of the floor. For example to achieve a U-value of 0.25W/m²K with Jabfloor Premium below a ground supported slab:

  • P/A ratio 0.25 you would need 40mm Jabfloor Premium
  • P/A ratio 0.40 you would need 65mm Jabfloor Premium
  • P/A ratio 0.50 you would need 70mm Jabfloor Premium
  • P/A ratio 0.70 you would need 80mm Jabfloor Premium

Our Technical Department is more than happy to carry out U-value calculations based on your construction details.

Can Jabfloor Premium be used in all floor applications?

Yes, Jabfloor Premium is the most versatile insulant for use in all floor specifications and is available in:

  • A wide range of compressive strengths from 70kPa grade to 500kPa.
  • A wide range of thicknesses
